"The Elvis Christmas Album reached number one on the Billboard Album Chart during the 1957 Christmas season. Elvis' version of "Blue Christmas," now considered a rock 'n' roll Christmas classic, is played every December on radio stations across the country. Of course, Elvis' Christmas album was re-released every Christmas season after its initial release in 1957. During the 1963 Christmas season, sales of the album finally reached the one million dollar mark, granting it gold record status. At the time, it was Elvis' sixth gold album. In the 45 years that have passed since then, Elvis' first Christmas album is still selling in various cover versions. The popularity of Elvis' first Christmas record has outlived most of the critics who condemned it more than 50 years ago.
