Following the artistic success of the Stax recording in 1973 and the worldwide phenomenon of the "Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite" album and broadcast that same year, ELVIS began a 15-city tour in 1974 that eventually ended in Memphis, where he recorded live with the best equipment of the time. The album Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis, originally released as a single, reached number one on the country charts and included the song "How Great Thou Art", for which ELVIS won his third Grammy Award. This deluxe four-vinyl reissue includes, among other things, a previously unreleased rehearsal of the concert with the audience, recorded days before the legendary concert at the Richmond Coliseum. The rehearsal was recorded in mono, with the reverb ELVIS was so fond of, and offers a new perspective on the King's magic. As an added bonus for true fans, five very personal tracks (three of them previously unreleased) are included, recorded on August 16, 1974 at RCA's Hollywood studio. Originally intended as reference recordings for the Las Vegas engagement - including "Down In The Alley," "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues," "Softly As I Leave You," "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "The Twelfth Of Never" - these recordings offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at how these songs were prepared for the concert. Anniversary release of the album "Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis". For the first time, these two CDs include songs that were not on the original LP, which was first released in 1974. There are also a few surprises, including previously unreleased mono recordings of a March 18, 1974 "rehearsal concert" at the Richmond Coliseum, two days before the actual concert in Presley's hometown of Memphis, where he last performed in 1961. The lineup consisted of James Burton and John Wilkinson (guitar), Charlie Hodge (guitar and vocals), Duke Bardwell (bass), Ronnie Tutt (drums), Glen D. Hardin (piano), Sweet Inspirations, JD Sumner & The Stamps, Kathy Westmoreland (vocals) with Joe Guercio and his orchestra. The release is accompanied by a 24-page booklet with rare photographs, previously unpublished memorabilia and new liner notes.
