This album combines, for the first time, his legendary recordings of traditional Christmas carols with excerpts from Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio, with contributions from Gundula Jannowitz and Christa Ludwig in addition to Wunderlich. The result is a Wunderlich Christmas album unlike any other. Wunderlich's youngest daughter, Barbara Wunderlich, has written a new text especially for this booklet, which provides exciting information about how Christmas was celebrated at the Wunderlichs' home. The Wunderlich Christmas Album contains all the great Christmas classics such as Silent Night, Es ist ein Ros entsprungen, Vom Himmel hoch, Maria durch ein Dornwald ging, Ich steh an deiner Krippen hier; plus the most beautiful arias from Bach's Christmas Oratorio.
