As an archaeologist For nine months Alexandre Tharaud left the concert hall to find his way to the piano Olympus: to his own interpretation of Bach's Goldberg Variations, one of the most intellectually and technically demanding piano works ever written. He explored this music "like an archaeologist", says the pianist, "I was diving into the unknown, I was a searcher". The artistic result: a triumphant concert series, which is now being followed by a new recording - both as a CD album with a DVD including the concert and an interview, and as a vinyl LP. "It was amazing to look at each note from different angles, to spend hours with each bar," says Tharaud, summing up, "To play Bach, you have to find humility, humility. ' Tharaud has followed a similar path before, when he presented his excellent recording of Bach's piano concertos. With his sonata album of Bach's great contemporary Scarlatti, he opened up new avenues in the interpretation of Baroque piano music on the modern piano.
