The songs themselves are the stars on this album, and Keb' Mo' takes a wise, quiet, and restrained approach to each of them, preferring the messages to a light soul-jazz backdrop with just enough funk in the horns in between to give the arrangements a bit of momentum. It's hard to say anything about the song selection, but as a performer Mo' rarely makes any of them his own, behind every one there's a crystal clear memory of the original version. It's clear that Mo' is in no way trying to top the charts, and his efforts to put these important songs in a new light are commendable. "Peace...Back by Popular Demand" isn't one of the great albums, but it has something to say, or in this case, rather remind us, and serves as a reminder that every age deserves peace and can use it.
