A small showcase of Jamaican dancehall label Black Solidarity. In the early 80s, Jamaican reggae was basically going hand in hand with what was happening in the dancehalls of the Caribbean island, never before had sound system operators had such an influence as they did back then. While the public and critics were busy looking for the next Bob Marley, they overheard what was happening downtown: namely, a return to the real raw roots of the music by young producers who knew what the kids in the dance halls wanted to hear. As a record salesman for Bunny "Striker" Lee and Winston "Niney the Observer" Holness, Ossie Thomas was in the music business at the age of 14 and in 1979 he and his friend Phillip Morgan started the Black Solidarity label on Delamere Avenue in Kingston. The compilation "String Up The Sound System" brings together some of the dance label's most important tracks.
