In her moving autobiography "I Sang to Survive", the poignant Judith Schneiderman tells how she sang to survive as a girl in a concentration camp. She later sang these songs from an early age to her daughter, the opera singer Helene Schneiderman. When she embarked on a career far from home, in Germany of all places, she was accompanied by a cassette tape of her mother's singing, which served as an audio link to her family. The songs in Yiddish that are recorded here mean an incredible amount to Helene Schneiderman, and you can hear it from the first to the last track on her CD.
