Most of the musicians heard on these tracks became part of the MFSB, the musical backbone of almost all black American recordings made in Philadelphia between 1971 and 1976. Many of the songwriters and producers also became much more famous in the 1970s after honing their craft on these and many other classic recordings. Some of the artists featured here found themselves marginalized in the late 1970s, while others moved their recording bases elsewhere - but all played a significant role in developing Philadelphia's status as one of the most important soul music cities of the 20th century.
