While the straight bass drum has gone higher, faster and further across the planet during the 1990s, a variety of more or less contemplative, uplifting and slowing down music has emerged from all corners. The other side of the coin, so to speak. Chillout, lounge, easy listening, trance, muzak and lift music, electronica and intelligent techno... and of course and above all Ambient. In old and new variants. Also in Kompakt, alongside the constant promotion of the so-called "cologne sound" - minimal techno - there was a strong predilection for ambient sounds. Not only due to their origins in pop music and a particular fondness for pop music of the 70s and 80s, since 2000 the creators of Kompakt have crystallized a diverse ambient music that brought an aspect of pop to the multilayered and opaque genres of the time. Not pop in the sense of real, classic pop music. Pop in the sense of subculture, pop art, and especially pop as an attitude. Thus "Pop Ambient" was born and real music with high recognition value was created. Pop Ambient indulges in beauty and timelessness without restraint. Pop ambient is a separate sound and opinion cosmos that is not afraid of contact with neighbouring genres, kitsch, art or carnival. Ambient is when you do it anyway.
