Experimental Sound Artist and Long String Instrument Creator

Ellen Fullman is an American composer and instrument builder, best known for her invention and performances on the Long String Instrument, which she has been developing since the early 1980s. The Long String Instrument is an installation-based work that can span over 100 feet in length, with dozens of wires strung across a space. Fullman walks along the length of the instrument, rubbing the strings with rosin-coated fingers to produce ethereal and resonant music that blurs the line between sound and architecture.
