Jefferson Starship is an American rock band that evolved out of the group Jefferson Airplane, one of the seminal acts of the San Francisco psychedelic rock scene in the 1960s. After Jefferson Airplane's dissolution, several members, including Paul Kantner and Grace Slick, formed Jefferson Starship in the early 1970s. The band achieved considerable commercial success throughout the 1970s and into the 1980s with hits like "Miracles," "Count on Me," and "Jane." Their sound was a mix of rock, pop, and later, a more AOR-oriented style. The lineup changed several times over the years, with Kantner being a constant member until his departure in 1984. After his departure, the band shortened its name to Starship and continued to record and perform with hits like "We Built This City" and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now." In 1992, Kantner revived the Jefferson Starship name and continued to tour and record with various lineups until his death in 2016. The band has released numerous albums over their career, showcasing their ability to adapt to changing musical landscapes while maintaining their core identity rooted in their psychedelic and rock origins.
