Lungbrush

Lungbrush

Lungbrush was a thrash metal band from the Chicago area that formed in May 1995 by Troy "ROACH" Coates (vocals), Jeff Holmes (guitar), Jon Billman (bass), Rob Pandola (drums), and Troy Moore (guitar). Influenced by bands such as Entombed, Machine Head, and Pantera; Lungbrush started hitting the Chicago scene. In '96 Troy Moore was replaced by Chris Willliams and the band recorded their first album "Your Loss Your Cost" on Pulverizer Records. In '97 Chris Williams quit the band and Rob Pandola was replaced by Ricardo Salinas. They scored their first Metro show opening for Suicidal Tendencies, and started writing music for their next album. In '98 Lungbrush won a contest out of hundreds of bands to open for Slayer and Fear Factory at the Aragon Ballroom. The same year the band recorded their second album "Old School New School" for independent label, and started headlining the Metro. Recruiting bands such as Relative Ash, Disturbed, and Soil to open for them. "Old School New School" was re-released in March 1999 on Pavement Records. After that, the band played San Antonio's Metal Fest and went on tour w/Turmoil and All Out War and also did spot dates and opened up for bands like D.R.I., S.O.D., Skinlab, Snot, Machine Head, Voivod, Accept and many others throughout 2000 & 2001. After a seven year run and one more demo recording, Lungbrush broke up in 2002. Roach moved to Florida and was in "Rising Up Angry" with old guitarist Chris Williams. Jeff Holmes and Jon Billman are currently in Chicago-based band "EMETIC". Lungbrush was always about unity in the Chicago scene. They helped out any band they could and are responsible for getting Chicago Metal back into one of the best clubs in Chicago, The Metro. In March 2009, Troy Coates passed away from adrenal gland cancer. Throughout his entire battle with cancer, he continued to write and perform, up until the week before he died. He will be forever revered as the "Godfather of Chicago Metal".
