Czech Folk Music Duo

Vladimír Merta is a Czech folk and blues singer-songwriter, guitarist, composer, and writer. Born on January 20, 1946, in Prague, he became an important figure in the Czech music scene, especially during the 1960s and 1970s. Merta was associated with the Czech underground movement and his music often carried elements of protest and social commentary. His career was somewhat hindered by the political climate of the time, particularly during the normalization period following the Prague Spring in 1968 when the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies invaded Czechoslovakia to suppress reforms.
