Quatermass

Quatermass

British progressive rock group

Quatermass was a British progressive rock band that formed in London in 1969. The group consisted of bassist and vocalist John Gustafson, keyboardist J. Peter Robinson, and drummer Mick Underwood. They were known for their heavy use of Hammond organ, which was a defining characteristic of their sound. Quatermass released their self-titled debut album in 1970, which included tracks such as "Black Sheep of the Family" and "One Blind Mice." Despite being well-received by critics and developing a cult following, the band struggled to achieve commercial success and disbanded shortly after the release of their first album. John Gustafson went on to work with other notable acts, including Roxy Music and Ian Gillan Band, while Mick Underwood joined Gillan, a band formed by Deep Purple's vocalist Ian Gillan. J. Peter Robinson pursued a career in film scoring. Quatermass' influence can be seen in the work of later progressive rock bands, although they remain relatively obscure in the broader history of the genre.
