Robert Page

(b. 4/27/1927 - d. 8/7/2016) American conductor and educator, he was Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at Carnegie Mellon University and Temple University. He graduated from Abilene Christian College and did postgraduate work in music at Indiana and New York Universities. In addition to directing the The Temple University Choirs, he served as conductor and Director of Choruses of the The Cleveland Orchestra from 1971-1989, the Mendelssohn Club Of Philadelphia, and from 1989 held the title of Director of Special Projects and Choral Activities with the The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Under his direction, the Temple Choirs joined the Orchestra in the American premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki's Utrenja during the 1970-71 season, and in the world premiere of Samuel Barber's The Lovers the following season. In 1970, The Orchestra and the Mendelssohn Club gave the first performance outside the Soviet Union of Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 13, a recording of which won a prestigious Montreux award. In October 1973, Mr. Page conducted the The Philadelphia Orchestra and Temple University Choirs in the first Philadelphia Orchestra performance of Penderecki's Passion and Death of Out Lord Jesus Christ According to Saint Luke. Father of Carolann Page, grandfather of Alexander Gemignani.
