Old love, new tendencies Creativity has a name: Joe Bonamassa. The American blues and blues-rock guitarist, singer, composer and songwriter has released nine solo studio and live albums in the last five years alone. In 2021, he once again builds on his remarkable catalogue with the release of his fifteenth studio LP and fifth album in the series consisting entirely of original material: 'Time Clocks'. Despite all this output, however, the guitar virtuoso has lost neither his wealth of ideas nor his love of experimentation. On the contrary, "Time Clocks" is his most ambitious and varied work to date, with which Joe Bonamassa is expanding the boundaries of blues rock. In ten new songs, he mixes a new musical taste, a new style, and progressive rock. And so the record sheds new light on the life of Joe, who seems to be constantly creative and on the move. His new sound is a little older but wiser in terms of knowledge gained, and has a raw and vital face combined with a determination that can only be gained through years of perseverance and tireless commitment. "Time Clocks" follows Joe's constant evolution as he keeps pushing forward, bending genres, breaking down walls and defying the adversity of the music industry. He showed what that sounds like in July and August with the new songs "Notches" and "The Heart That Never Waits," which despite the new tendencies don't hide his love for blues rock. Bonamassa was involved in the recording of the new studio album with his longtime collaborators Kevin Shirley as producer and manager/business partner Roy Weisman as executive producer. The band, which recorded in New York at Germano Studios/The Hit Factory, included Steve Mackey (bass), Lachy Doley (piano), Bunna Lawrie (didgeridoo), Bobby Summerfield (percussion) and Anton Fig of "Late Night With David Letterman" (drums and percussion). Mahalia Barnes, Juanita Tippins and Prinnie Stevens were the backing vocalists. The album was mixed by Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones, Toto, Bon Jovi). The artwork was designed by graphic designer Hugh Syme (Rush, Aerosmith, Whitesnake). Commenting on the recording process during Covid-19, Bonamassa says, "Twenty years ago, I made a record of cover versions called 'Blues Deluxe'. [...] I was living in New York at the time and times were pretty tough. My weekly routine was a combination of sessions, gigs and rare opportunities. I was hungry, literally and figuratively. The music business is tough, very tough, and especially in the days when the major labels held all the strings. I subsisted on peanut butter, jelly and ramen noodles bought at a wine shop on 83rd Street and Columbus Avenue. Once a week, I bought a "Win for Life" ticket. At the time, I thought it was literally my ticket out of this horrible business. But my love of guitar and music was too strong to give it up. It's 2019 and I'm back in New York City, which has inspired me. My living conditions have changed significantly over the past 20 years, but the energy that makes New York great has remained. In February 2021, we found ourselves in the Germano studio recording music as a trio (but not a trio) and having to find ways to produce records even though your lifelong producer was stuck in Australia due to travel restrictions. Kevin Shirley found a way to connect continents and consoles so we literally had no delays. Add Steve Mackey and Anton Figo, a few masks and swear words and you have 'New York Record' aka 'Time Clocks'." "Time Clocks" by Joe Bonamassa is being released as a deluxe box set with a digipak CD, 24-page booklet, two coasters, ten postcards and three picks. Record lovers can look forward to a double album, optionally on black or gold vinyl. Joseph Leonard "Joe" Bonamassa began his career at just twelve years old, opening for blues legend B.B. King. Over the past 13 years, Bonamassa has released 14 solo albums on his independent record label, J&R Adventures, eleven of which have reached number one on the Billboard Blues Charts. Best terms for number 15: "Clock".
