Romantic souls will delight in the presentation here of a Dvořák title composed in one of Ančerl's most artistically eloquent creations from a dazzling parade of works, including the popular Carnival Overture, with its palette of moods revolving alternately around Bacchus and Pan, and the Sixth Symphony, with one of Dvořák's most august Furiant Dance numbers. The legendary comeback here is marked by a reissue of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto in B minor with Sviatoslav Richter, followed no less spectacularly by a concert violin exhibition by Bartók specialist Andre Gertler. A true musical feast is celebrated by Ancerl's reading of Shostakovich's Leningrad Symphony.
